Chapter Seven
Aki opened her eyes slowly. She had decided that she would no longer run away from her haunting past. She had to do something about it. Taking in the surroundings as she slowly got up, she recognised the place instantly. She would not easily forget those cabinets that were filled to the brim with medicine.
Aki swung her legs of the side of the bed and wore her shoes. As she was doing that, she felt a certain numbness in her left arm. She turned and realised that it was bandaged. It was then that she remembered what had happened so far. Sensing the urgency, she quickly got up and searched her belt for her weapon, but they were not at their usual place.
"They should have confiscated it. They wouldn't want a girl wielding two pistols running around and creating chaos in their base." She thought.
She then moved to one of the medicine cabinets and searched for painkillers in case the anesthesia in her left arm wore out soon.
After preparing everything she needed, she headed for the door. She tried the knob, but it was locked. She had already expected it to happen. She tried finding the safety pin that was always pinned near her belt.
Aki thought that the Varia were to naive to overlook this, as they did not know that a simple safety pin can unlock doors if handled by skilled hands.
As she undid the lock, she remembered about the old days when she had lived with the Cavallone family with Ganta. She and Ganta always sneaked out by picking the front gate's lock. When they came back, there was always a earful from Dino's father, and then another earful from Dino later.
She knew that those peaceful days were about to end. Suddenly, the lock clicked, sending her back to the present. Again, Aki tried the door knob and it opened smoothly.
After opening the door, she looked around outside for any people. Strangely, there weren't any guards patrolling the area. Seizing the opportunity, Aki quickly ran off to find an escape route.

-Xanxus' Office-
"She is too eager that she didn't survey the surroundings." Xanxus thought as he viewed the footage from the security cameras planted near the infirmary. Just then, Ganta opened the office door and just walked in.
"How is she?" He asked.
"Still fine as ever, that trash. However, she is too naive to identify all the traps planted around her." Xanxus replied, eyes still on the monitor.
"I guess so. Well, I'm bored. Time for some drama." Ganta said.
"Just don't screw our plans, scum." Xanxus replied.
"Don't worry." Ganta said, dismissing of the warning as he walked out of the door.

Aki ran around silently without any guards knowing. Or so she thought. As she rounded a corner, a few guards patrolling spotted her.
"Hey you! Stop there!"
Back stepping a bit, she quickly turned and ran in another direction. She could see the elevator in the distance. Just then, two people, one with long white hair and another with blonde hair and a crown on his head, walked out of a room in front of her. Unable to stop in time, she quickly pushed them to the side as she ran in between them.
"Sorry!" She said as she ran off.
"VOIIIIII!! WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!?"
"Shishishi, you're so dead."
"That laugh.. Wasn't that Belphegor? Nevermind, I don't have time to bother about that. Ganta's safety comes first." Aki thought as she continued running. At that moment, a "ding" could be heard. The elevator had arrived to that floor. Aki quickly ran at top speed towards it. However, when she reached, it again went to one of the basements. Aki had a slight idea on where Ganta would be locked. He would most probably be on the lower floors.
As she heard the shouts in the distance, she quickly punched the down button at the lift repeatedly. Finally, the lift came back up to that floor. The door opened and Aki was about to dash in when she bumped into someone tall. The person stopped immediately.
Aki lifted her head and realised she had bumped into her worst enemy, Xanxus. Behind him was Levi and Lussuria. Belphegor and Squalo were running towards them from a distance. Apparently, they were pissed off at the way Aki shoved them roughly.
She tried to think of a way to escape, but there was none. The only way of exit is the elevator. There were no windows. To her right, Belphegor and Squalo were there. To her left, were the Varia guards. And in front, Levi, Lussuria and Xanxus.
She started to get mentally prepared for a 0.1% chance in escape. She knew she had to fight out of this. However, she didn't have her weapons.
Again, she looked to her left. She knew she only had one chance.
She planned to dash pass the low ranked Varia guards in time, before Xanxus and his team had a chance to react.
The guards would be nearing in a mere 30 seconds. She carefully timed her escape. When they were a few metres away from her, she suddenly ran towards the left and got ready for the injuries from the guard's spears and lances.
However, their spears and lances were not even needed. One gunshot solved it all. As the bullet just grazed Aki's right calf, she collapsed, right in front of the guards. She turned back, stunned, and saw Xanxus casually keeping his gun. She knew they were not gonna let her off this easily. She tried to stand, but her efforts failed. The wound was apparently deeper than expected.
Xanxus then motioned to the guards to bring her away. All her hopes of escape, had vanished.
"I'm sorry."
